FAQs about Counseling in NC and CO

You got questions. I have some answers.

  • Do you only offer online sessions?

Yes, all of my current clients sessions are held via a HIPPA compliant platform.

  • What services do you provide?

I provide mental health outpatient therapy to teens, young adults, and adults in North Carolina and Colorado. You can learn more about The Virtual Couch on getting started.

  • What is your availability? Do you offer weekend and evening hours?

I do not see clients on Sundays and Mondays.

    My current availability is:

  • Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, 9 am-7 pm EST.

  • Fridays, 8 am-11 am (Limited Slots) EST.

  • Saturdays, I see bi-weekly clients from 9 am-2 pm EST.

I encourage clients to set reoccurring appointments, so you can make sure your slot is always guaranteed. I am always open to discuss scheduling concerns.

  • How will I know if we are a good fit?

The most important thing to me is that you are finding the support you need. I offer a free 20 minute consultation to determine if we are a good fit for each other. If you feel that it may not be a good fit, I will help you find a therapist that may be better suited. If requested, I can reach out to other colleagues who may be better serve your needs.

  • How is the first session like?

Great question! Typically, it lasts from 80-90 minutes (less if needed) ! I try to make it the most extended session, so I can begin to learn your story! First, we will cover logistical information, such as HIPPA, consent forms, and other policies (you know the fun stuff!) … In the next half, we will get to know each other. I build rapport with you through learning about your identities, interests, goals of counseling, counseling experiences, family history, presenting concerns, past mental health concerns, your home life, and other different areas. I always try to leave room at the end for any questions, concerns, and comments.

  • Will you think I'm "crazy"?

Ha. Oh no! The concept of "crazy" is created by society. I mean, what we deem "crazy" in one culture is perfectly acceptable in another. You are a unique person with unique fears, struggles, thoughts… you are human. I don't see anything abnormal with what you will tell me. Plus, don't we all have ideas that are deemed a little "crazy"?

  • Will you give me advice?

This is often a trick question. Some therapists may give a lot of advice, and others barely even say anything about themselves (let alone offer advice). From my perspective, I do not try to give you too much advice because that may be unproductive for your healing. Therapy is about empowering you to make the best decision as you already have the tools within you! We are different people, so what may work for me may not work for you! Now, on the other hand, sometimes we are going through a rough patch, and we need to hear "You can do it" or "Yasss… Queen, Slay!" – I can offer that. However, I will always encourage you to look deep into your heart and follow your values to make the best decision for yourself.

  • How long will I be in therapy?

Well, many factors impact your length in therapy. We live in a fast-paced society, and we are often seeking a quick fix. I often tell clients, "If you dealt with trauma, resulting in pain for the decade of your life- I can't promise you that you will be out of therapy in 1-2 months." I understand that most people may not stay in therapy for years due to finances and life happening. In addition, individuals using insurance may only have a set number of sessions. That is why it is essential to talk about your needs and expectations for therapy. Many people start off coming weekly for a little while, then transition to bi-weekly, and eventually on a once-monthly basis. However, most importantly, it is ultimately your decision to stop therapy when you feel ready.

  • Do you prescribe medication?

I personally don't because I am not a medical professional (i.e., psychiatrist, primary care physician). But, I am not against medication. If you are interested, I will explore you're the pros and cons of medication with you. However, I would never push my values onto you, and I will support your decision.

  • Do you accept insurance?

Yes! I accept most Blue Cross and Blue Shield plans (except Medicaid and Medicare). I will have a third party biller verify your benefits and coverage, but I encourage you to check your benefits as well :)

For all other insurance plans, I can provide you a superbill, and you can seek reimbursement through your OON (Out-of-Network) benefits. However, I cannot guarantee reimbursement.
